This RYA certificated course is for complete beginners, or those who may have tried windsurfing previously, but need refreshing on the basic techniques. No previous experience is necessary, just a desire to have fun!
Dependent on suitable weather conditions and individual ability, students should cover all elements of the RYA “Start Windsurfing” certificate, giving them the skills to sail where they want to go and return to their starting point in safety.

The course cost includes use of all equipment – boards, rigs, wetsuits and buoyancy aids.
* Please note neoprene boots are not provided due to hygiene reasons, please bring old trainers or Hunstanton Watersports retail store sells wetsuit shoes from £8.

RYA Course Content:

Day one
• Introduction to kit, rigging and de-rigging
• Getting started - simulator sessions on beach
• On-water sessions – sailing across the wind
• Steering & upwind turns (tacking)
• Self-rescue
 
Day two
• Sailing upwind
• Improving tacking
• Sailing downwind and downwind turns (gybing)

Theory topics to be covered over the two days include “Sail Safe”, basic sailing theory and terms, rigging and checking equipment, selecting and buying suitable kit, and next steps in your windsurfing progression.

RYA Windsurfing at Hunstanton Watersports

During 2011 we have been working towards our RYA accreditation, which we finally achieved during August. This means we are the only RYA windsurfing school in the local area, and one of very few RYA coastal windsurf centres in the UK. Our season started in March with some weekly youth courses, and has continued through the summer into October, with everything from half-day taster sessions, to 2-day full RYA courses and also stag-weekends and school sessions. Arthur Fox joined us as instructor for the second half of the season.

 

2012 promises a more structured course programme, with adult RYA “Start Windsurfing” courses planned on a regular basis throughout the summer. These certificated courses give people who have never stepped on a board before, the skills and knowledge to sail where they want to go and return to their starting point in safety. There will also be some Youth sessions , with an emphasis on encouraging youngsters into the sport. We are able to offer certificated RYA Windsurfing Youth Stage 1 and 2 courses, which take kids of ages approximately 8 to 14 to the equivalent level of the adult RYA “Start Windsurfing” courses.
