New Naish Ride Kite and Board Package 2012

The NEW Naish Ride Kitesurfing Kite and Board Package 2012

DESIGNER'S NOTES:

"The Naish Ride project 2012 came about with the mindset that kiteboarding should be easy. To this end, we created a kite and board combo that delivers easy control and use with no loss of performance.

The Naish Ride 2012 board features a single concave bottom and a medium flex allowing the rider to focus on having fun. The outline has been tuned for early planing and control. The modern tip design prevents spray from hitting the rider’s eyes.

The Naish kiteboard is packaged with simplified Ally bindings and softer footstraps. The baseplate features both angle and width adjustment. The pad has multiple density EVA which cradles the foot. The 5.0cm fins enhance the board’s early planing characteristics, and tracks nicely when the wind picks up." ~ Ian Ponting, Naish Board Designer

"The Naish Ride 2012 was derived from the base origins of the Naish Park, but with more focus on a 'sheet in and go' feel and water relaunch ease. Our R&D team set out to create a kite that was simple, easy and fun for 'all around, hooked-in freeriding'; and a kite that a novice or entry level rider could use for learning the basics and improving into an advanced rider.

The rounded wing tips allow the kite to better rotate with less drag while resting on the water, which makes relaunching extremely easy. The two-strut design allows for a lighter weight kite with a more full center section. This design, coupled with a slightly flatter arc (compared to the Park) allows the Ride to get more punch when sheeting in, giving it that nice sheet in and go feel.

The Naish Ride's 2012 design characteristics translate into very easy jumping, where the rider can simply sheet in and jump on demand, without having to over think kite positioning. The Ride really hits the mark for the target rider and our R&D team is very proud of the end result."

~ Damien Girardin, Naish Kite Designer

Naish Park 2012 Review

Naish Park 2012 Now Available from Hunstanton Watersports.

Naish Park 2012 kite Review

Words: Steve-o

The Naish Park 2012 is by far the best kite I’ve flown and put a big smile on my face, for a perfect mix of old school with new this kite is the perfect all-rounder. I genuinely love going out on these kites it makes bad conditions effortless and great conditions............ ermmm great.

I've been kiting for about 10 years now, so I’ve flown loads of different kites in all sorts of conditions in different locations all over the world. I been lucky to be able to experience this sport like this and I’m glad to say, still loving it! After being a C-kite rider through and through, all the way up to this year I’ve grown to love  the raw power, pull and pop you get from a C-kite and never wanted to change that, as I’ve flown plenty of bows and deltas in the past and none of them floated my boat. But as I’ve been riding my strapless board for the last year or so and not getting on the twinny as much.

I’ve been finding the C's a bit too much at times in the big gusty days on my surf board and been getting a bit of a beating ( perhaps I’m getting old ha ha and wise ). So as soon as I saw and the Naish Park on Demo with its C-shape feel mixed with its delta shape usability and amazing stability, I thought it was just another Hybrid C-kite wanna be, so i gave it a go. So i took the 10m out not expecting much and within ten minutes of riding it i was buzzing, in cross onshore and gusty conditions and mushy sets ( from 12-27 knots, which didn't faze the Park on the water one bit) I had a great sail and from that point I knew these where the kites for me. I came off the water with a smile from ear to ear and when everyone else said they had a rubbish day, I didn't believe them.

Is it a C-kite?
No!
Does it feel like a C-kite?
Yes! when you want it to.
Is it stable riding the line?
Hell yes! it just sits there.

I went straight back to Steve at the shop and ordered myself a 6m and 10m there and never looked back. The Parks are super fast and also very predictable, so you know where it is at all times. It's as great un-hooked any C-kite out there with the same direct pull, which is great for your freestyle moves (it just sits there and delivers the goods). Also it feels sweet through the loops with super speed and constant pull throughout. Hooked in there's as much power control and bar feedback as you want, with 3 bar pressure settings and each one makes a difference so try them all and see which one suits. I'm not a light rider weighing over 13 stone but for me, these 2 kites ( 6 & 10 ) get me out from a steady 12 knots to------ well I’ve not been blown off the water yet with them so I’m not sure of the top end.

The 2012 Park as I see it is the perfect all-rounder, from sliders and kickers and low level tricks to your high mega loops with it's smooth, fast and stableness for wave riding.

Heimplanet The Cave Inflatable Tent

Monday, 28 November 2011 21:20:39 GMT

Heimplanet The Cave Inflatable Tent

The new inflatable tent from Heimplanet THE CAVE is now available. A new lifestyle choice tent that is easilly portable and errected in 60 seconds!

Buy online now at - http://www.hunstantonwatersports.com/outdoor/heimplanet-the-cave-inflatable-tent.html

The new inflatable tent from Hemiplanet one of the best products that has come to the market in the last few years. The new design is ready to go in less than 60seconds.

It’s not often that someone does something new with tent design but the Cave from Heimplanet certainly looks to be innovative. In the meantime, here’s what Heimplanet have to say...

A highly innovative and technical tent, The Cave, from Heimplanet, is a stable and rigid geodesic structure, which utilises flexible TPU beams, filled with air, to support the attached flysheet, meshed inner and groundsheet.

Inflatable Diamond Grid

The Inflatable Diamond Grid (IDG) is a self-supporting airframe formed out of 5 modular double-layer air beams. They can be divided into five separate air chambers to provide a stable stance even in case of damaged parts. In stormy conditions lines can be used to fix the frame to the ground – usually they will not be necessary. Pitching takes less than a minute – with no parts to put together, just pump it up and feel at home.

Airbeams

The airbeams are built with a resistant, double-layer construction – an extra airtight TPU bladder to keep the air inside and an outer jacket for protection and stability. It is made of a polyester-laminated fabric which ensures extra stability and durability.

Multi Chamber Safety System

Our patent-pending Multi Chamber Safety System enables you to inflate the entire frame (IDG) in just one single step. Once inflated, the frame can be divided into five separate chambers, which ensures sufficient stability in the event that a part becomes damaged. All parts of the IDG can be easy replaced or repaired.

Valves

The IDG features five 2-in-1 valves, each with two closures: a non-return valve for a quick and simple inflation of the airframe and a large opening for letting out the air easily. So putting up the tent and taking it down each take less than a minute.

Outer tent

Materials

The outer tent is made out of waterproof, durable yet still light-weight polyester material (100% 75D 190T polyester PU 5.000 mm).

Flexibility

The tent is designed so that the frame and inner and outer parts can be set up in a single step (inflation). However, you can still use the inner and outer tent separately.

Air Supply

5 ventilation openings provide a perfect airflow from bottom to top – your cave will never become a flowstone cave, even in worst conditions.

Roof Design

The center of the tent becomes an additional supporting point created by the tension from the five upper vertices of the IDG. This allows for the formation of a star-shaped roof. The result is a point-symmetrical slope that offers five run-offs for rain.

Inner Tent

Materials

The inner tent is made out of light and highly breathable but still water-repellent nylon fabric (Nylon 40D 210T). In combination with an non-see-through mosquito net, the tent offers outstanding air circulation.

Ground Sheet

The ground sheet is made out of very robust and absolutely waterproof polyester (Tafetta 70D 210T, PU 10.000 mm).

Storage Space

Multiple sown-in bags inside offer space for smaller and bigger items. An apsis at the entrance provides room for cooking or for dirty shoes.

Gear Loft

A detachable Gear Loft underneath the rooftop offers additional storage space and can be used to put a lamp inside for diffuse atmospheric room light.

Ground

In general, tents offer no more room than is necessary. The Cave, on the other hand, offers as much room as possible. The efficient design of the geodesic principle allows for the best ratio between the material used and the space created.

Sleep

The “Round Ground” design – offers space for 3 to sleep or 6 to sit together – for more quality time inside.

Sit

Thanks to its generous space concept, “The Cave” offers seating for up to six people in a comfortable setting.

This makes the tent easy to pitch and offers outstanding stability – for a good time you can count on when travelling.

Nature invented one of the most efficient and stable structures: the molecular structure of a diamond. We translate this principle into our “Inflatable Diamond Grid” – IDG.

FEATURES

Intuitive and extremly fast pitching (roll out, inflate, finished).

Simultaneous erection of air frame, inner tent and flysheet.

One Pump System allows complete erection with only one inflation procedure.

Stable and robust air frame with geodesic structure.

Double layer air struts.

Multi Chamber Safety System allows separation of the air frame in 5 independent air chambers – for emergenca stability in case of defect of one or even two chambers.

5 closable ventilation openings at the fly sheet.

Vestibule at the entrance area.

Round ground area offers enough space for 3 persons to sleep and baggage or up to 6 persons to sit together.

Light and well ventilated inner tent with no see-um mesh and lots of storage space integrated to the side walls.

Entrance of the inner tent can be opened variably by two-way zipper and be used as additional ventilation.

MATERIAL

Air Frame: recyclable material

Outer layer: extra stiff and resistant polyester

Inner layer: flexible thermoplastic polyurethane*

Fly Sheet: 100% Polyester 75D 190T Ripstop, PU 5.000 mm*

Inner Tent: 100% Nylon 40D 210T Ripstop, breathable*

Ground Sheet: 100% Polyester Tafetta 70D 210T, PU 10.000 mm*

*40D, 70D, bzw, 75D defines the denier (strength of the thread). 190T and 210T defines the thread density of the material. PU is a lamination (Polyurethan). 5.000 mm and 10.000 mm displays the water column, and defines the waterproofness.

F-One Bandit 5 2012 Available Soon

Monday, 12 September 2011 22:30:16 BST

F-One Bandit 5 Kitesurfing Kite 2012

For 2012 the focus really remains on simplicity with the Bandit 5 being the flagship kite. Once again the Bandit has been made to do everything well and answer the needs of riders from all disciplines – surf, freestyle, speed, freeride, raceThe all new F-One Bandit 5 (V) is a totally new designed kite offering better performance and safety than ever before yet performs at all levels no matter what your skill level.

F-One's goal was not to offer just a versatile kite but the best kite for each discipline and every style of rider whether you are just a beginner or pro athlete - the F-One Bandit 5 (V) is for you!

F-One set their goals for the F-One Bandit 5 (V):

Range:
To further increase the Bandit 5's range, F-One needed both a kite that you could easily power up in the low end anda kite that was even more forgiving in strong and gusty conditions.

Lightness:
In order to improve its performance when under powered, and add to the ease of use at the bottom end its lightness was a priority.

Handling:
To immediately position the kite where you want it, to precisely manage its rotation during a kiteloop, and to have the most responsive kite in larger sizes, its maneuverability is crucial. This is why we have focused our attention on this particular aspect.

F-One Bandit 5 (V) Improvements:
The whole structure of the kite, its profile and its bridles have been reworked in order to achieve these goals. Its construction has also been fundamentally updated both in the choice and the distribution of materials and in the manufacturing processes. Because the structure of a kite is soft, it can deform and twist allowing the kite to rotate. A fully rigid profile wing will not turn at all. Therefore, manoeuverability and responsiveness of the kite depends directly on its ability to twist, one important point that F-One have greatly improved on thanks to a thinner leading edge, a new 3-point bridle system and a new shape for the struts. All these features were made to free the kites profile. Reducing the diameter of the leading edge with almost 25% less air volume, brings an important gain in terms of weight and aerodynamics. The result is better performance in the low end, but also at the top end thanks to an improved handling thinner profile.

F-One have also gained in terms of set up comfort as the inflation time has been reduced. A new type of flatter profile was employed by reducing the profile curve depth making the Bandit 5 (V) easier to depower and keep control at the top end. In the low end, a flatter profile is more efficient when powered-up and fully sheeted in providing constant power. The result is a better control of the kite aerodynamics, less lateral traction and less pressure and therefore effort through your legs and into the board when the wind picks up. Finally, some important work was undertaken on the bar feeling and pressure . The feedback from the bar provides you with constant information and lets you know what’s going on allowing you to adjus the position, the pull and the speed of your kite in the wind window at any given time.

These sensations must be precisely delivered so you can receive them all without the steering becoming a physical burden. The F-One Bandit 5 (V) puts more effort through the harness and less through your arms. The direct bar feeling allows for the transmission of all necessary information you need to make your riding better. Each year, F-One test more than sixty prototypes in order to meet all your chosen criteria and spend more than 120 days on the water to develop each new collection. With the Bandit 5 (V) F-One have largely achieved all initial objectives over the Bandit 4. Lighter, more manoeuverable and responsive; the Bandit 5 (V) is even smoother and ultimately more enjoyable and more effective regardless of the type of riding you do.

The new F-One Bandit 5 (V) now comes with a one-pump system and the bridles are cleaner and more comfortable to use.

The F-One Bandit 5 (V) kites has a higher aspect ratio giving you more lift and stability as well as an increased higher wind range.

This 2012 Bandit 5 (V) kite has less bar pressure when you are overpowered allowing for more of a comfortable ride and more confidence to unhook and try new manoeuvres even when overpowered.

The higher aspect ratio canopy profile allow for squarer wingtips making the overall performance of the kite more stable and more direct and precise during jumps.

Featuring the Life Line and the Auto re-launch, it brings superb comfort and safety to the rider.

An innovative C-shape kite with 4 line simplicity for no compromise performance, safety and control.

Developed and patented by F-One, it has proved reliable in all disciplines and for all levels of rider.

This single design is solution for all types of riders for one clear choice.

It combines strong features such as safety, performance, wind range, easy auto relaunch, simplicity of setup and unhooked riding without any compromises.

Beginner to Pro:
Speed, control and easy upwind tracking on a large wind range are eseential qualities for anyone. The front line orientated traction makes it easier to stay upwind and find the balance on your board whether you are just getting up and riding or landing your first kiteloop!

Freeriding:
The F-One Bandit IV's large wind range lets you ride a whole session without feeling the strongest of wind gusts! Traction from the window edge makes the board lighter and eases tacking on choppy waters. The shortened power/depower bar travel and reduced traction on the rider's arms grant an optimal riding position. While jumping, sending the kite to the zenith will be easier with optimised lift maintained for smoother landings.

In all conditions you can enjoy all the benefits of the Delta and its natural relaunch ability, you will particularly appreciate its immediately available power and its comfort and control. The versatility of the kite is unique and allows everyone to excel in all disciplines. All F-One pro team riders, from the snow to wave riding, to the hard core PKRA and speed guys, everybody strictly uses production Bandits. Also used by some schools, the Bandit can follow your progression from your first day all the way to the pinnacle of your performance.

Freestyle:
With easy power control, easy over power riding and simple adapting to the changing winds, you are all set to go big! Even when jumping in the high end its easy to fly the kite to the zenith thanks to depower and optimised window edge. With its aerodynamic improvements, the Bandit 5 launches you higher and glides longer than other kites on the market. The precise and inituitive control bar comforts you on the kites position and trajectory. Your attention will be free to focus on tricks and new figures. When kitelooping, the Bandit 5 (V) retains its speed as it flies back to the zenith and guarantees a soft landing. From the smallest to the biggest Bandit V, the flying characteristics and feeling on the bar are similar and you will be able to switch from one size to another without any adaptation time.

Riders will particularly appreciate its intuitive steering, better handling and lightness. During a jump, the timing is easy to find, with fine and constant control, it goes up to the zenith quickly and with all its aerodynamic performance its lift is also greatly improved. You always know where the kite is making it easy to make corrections.

Wave Riding:
For a relaxed surfing session, the use of a smaller and more responsive kite is necessary. Bandit's have great power, its wide wind range and depower make it an outstanding wave riding kite. The wind window and front orientated orientated traction eases the board into the waves and sets it free for carving. The Bandit 5's quick and short depower and the upfront traction makes it perfect for offshore conditions and engaging in off the lip manoeuvres like never before. With 25 knots onshore you can use the 6m for responsiveness and comfort when entering the rollers! The auto relaunch will get you out of tricky situations and the force frame structre of the Bandit V will resist anything!

In onshore conditions, light weight, maneuverability and depower capabilities are the Bandit 5’s main assets. F-One gave particular attention to maintain the manoeuverability even when depowered, which is so important in onshore surf conditions. It's power in the low end allows the use of a smaller kite. In offshore winds, control, finesse and ability to depower reduces the pressure on the board, allowing for a looser feeling with the board much lighter under your feet. With the Bandit 5 (V) your board rides free and is more reactive. When riding strapless, the progressive control of the power makes it easier to maintain your balance or to quickly reduce its traction, which is so important during the surfing phase. The new Bandit 5 (V) ensures all transitions and airs are smoothly controlled.

Unhooked:
Thanks to the F-One's entensive research on the bar feeling and the power / depower bar travel, they have controlled the influence of the backlines when riding unhooked, allowing you to unhook with no stress violent boosts. The gain on the window edge also helps you keep control with less side traction. It will ease the edging of the board and reduced any offside deportation during your jumps! The setup of the frontlines makes it easier and no longer needs continuous adjustments for a better ride. The Bandit V tracks when turning or kitelooping making a much smoother and more natural ride. The feedback returned from the control bar is extremely precise and you will always know where you are even with a one handed central grab. The chicken loop remains accessible and presented in front of you when you need to hook back in also. Thanks to the suicide loop which is built around the upper part of the chicken loop, you can directly attach the leash onto it. In addition the connector rotates around the loop keeping you leash clear and in perfect position.

Unhooked, its lightness and fine control reduces the sideways drag allowing better control of the trajectory during the jump and delivering smooth power and constant pull throughout. F-One's goal was to achieve the perfect balance between the qualities of the C-Shapes and those of modern wings. The results exceeded our expectations. In the hands of our best freestylers, with the kite low we were amazed by the tweaked moves they were pulling, both in terms of commitment, amplitude and height. Thanks to these qualities, you can commit to a kiteloop earlier than before on the way up. The Kiteloop is one of the areas where the improvement was the most impressive. The qualities of the profile, its handling and responsiveness allow a great gain in control, and being able to quickly get the kite to the zenith allows for smooth reception regardless of the commitment. Finally, for all the old school moves, the gain in lift will give you some valuable time to complete all your moves.

Racing:
Racing competitions are often won or lost on the upwind tack. This is where the Bandit V is excellent with its efficient window edge riding and available depower on a wind range. The Bandit's flying position helps control wide racing boards as well as the foil effect of large fins. On downwind tracking, the acceleration and max speed will remind you that the Bandit is the world speed record holder!

Long Distance:
The Bandit's wide wind range, its speed, constant and ideal traction properties makes it great for long downwind runs. Add to that a stable and responsive kiteboard and you will want to go for your own ocean crossing!

Speed:
Flying an 8m in over 50 knots can be a nightmare but with the Bandit V you can keep cool as the flying properties keep you in control and the kite control doesn't distort. The great control is what world speed record holders need to beat their own records! Your attention is no longer focused on the kite and those crazy wind gusts but on your trajectory and optimising board speed!

F-One Bandit 5 (V) 2012 Main Features:

- Increased wind window for a constant forward pull
- Legendary low end Bandit wind range
- New oustanding high end control
- Excellent stability over the entire range
- Shorter bar clearance for full power / depower
- Smooth bar traction while unhooked
- Increased Upwind and Speed Performance
- Maximum Depower with a shorter depower rope
- Lighter bar feeling and direct confident feeling
- Better control of the profile and shape in high wind range for impressed performance and control
- Delta C-Shape Techology:
- Delta C-Shape technology is a new F-One patented design offering unmatched stability and steering response when fully de-powered, with a proven C-shape design that maintains the highest standards in performance.

The Delta C-Shape features front line attachment points positioned higher up the leading edge, offering un-matched stability and steering response when fully de-powered, with a proven C-shape design that maintains the highest standards in performance.

EVO De-power & Life Line Combo:
The EVO De-power concept is a simple 4 line system with a 4m long Life Line featuring a V shaped bridle with a pulley system on each of the front lines. This simple system offers complete safety and allows for increased de-power by finely tuning the angle of attack of the kite.

When the quick release is activated the EVO system becomes the Life Line and the kite lands safely on its back with immediate and total power kill.

EVO De-power offers complete control with direct and responsive steering in all riding conditions.

Sheeting the bar in and out is very progressive even with the kite fully de-powered.

Unhooked the kite remains light and very predictable, inspiring confidence so you can progress faster.

Auto Re-launch:
Once the kite is sitting with the leading edge flat on the water, the well balanced Delta C-Shape allows the kite to automatically turn over onto one wing tip.

The kite will then "glide" towards the edge of the window, ready for quick and easy water re-launch.

Force Frame:
Kites with extended de-power ranges sustain more pressure across the canopy as they experience an increased frequency of use over a wider wind range.

Consequently F-One has developed a completely new structure for the Bandit, offering optimized durability with no additional weight gain.

The Force Frame is a solid Dacron structure consisting of the leading edge, the trailing edge and the struts.

This high strength skeleton structure is then covered with lightweight Spy material in the least vulnerable areas.

Fusion Struts:
The struts are integrated into the leading edge of the kite. This increases the rigidity of the Force Frame and reduces drag by creating a clean and well balanced structure.
This ‘One Kite Does It All’ approach makes so much sense.

Mystic Code 1 Kitesurfing Waist Harness 2012

Wednesday, 7 September 2011 22:33:13 BST

Check out the new Mystic Code 1 Kitesurfing Waist Harness for 2012 - Click Here

Being a brand that does not know the meaning of the word “follow”, Mystic have once again taken another huge step forward in the harness market. Introducing the new Mystic Code 1, a revolution in back support whilst you are out on the water. Mystic have teamed up with BOA (www.BOAtechnology.com) to create a harness that you can change the feel of whilst out on the water.

For more support and to really dial in the harness for the ultimate mega loop then simply twist the BOA and ramp up the tension in the back support. Or for a nice chilled coast into the beach simply pop the button and the tension drops for a comfy flexi ride in. BOA has changed so many product in so many industries, whether its boots in wakeboarding, gloves for skiing or helmets for biking, BOA always work with the best in the business and they have chosen their kite brand to work with, they have chosen Mystic, and they have produced together .. the Code 1.

Boa Technology:
The Boa System allows you to fine tune your fit and rely on it staying tight throughout your time in your harness. The Boa lace does not stretch.

Constructed from many interwoven, braided stainless steel laces, it has zero stretch. Simply stated, once you fine tune your fit, you can rely on the laces maintaining that specific closure. The Boa reel cannot and will not loosen or come untied. Internal ratchet arms engage with specially shaped gear teeth designed to keep the lace in place. No amount of force applied during your activity will overcome this mechanism, allowing you to set the lace tension and know the closure will stay exactly like you dialed it in.

The Boa reel is designed with a patented, field-proven mechanism to ensure that the reel stays closed during use. Only when you finishes your kiting and actively pull out the dial, will the system release. This provides the user with excellent reliability and security.

MYSTIC CODE 1 WAIST HARNESS FEATURES:

• BOA micro adjustment system, for anatomical back support
• 3D-Thermo moulded foam interior and exterior
• Ultra light
• Covered side part
• Soft neoprene edges
• Delta shaped power rings

Wednesday 2nd June - Review
Good news! Weds club has started and is going to carry on from now on every Wednesday through the summer.

On Wednesday we had 7 people turn up, the tide was high and the sun was out so we all went for a paddle on stand up paddle boards ( SUP )

After assessing the tides we decided to keep left as the current was pulling pretty strong to the right. Great fun and mischief was had by all with a couple of newbie's being shown the ropes by the more experienced to help them pick this ever growing new sport up. Then a paddle around the sea lion was in order before heading back in for BBQ and cold beer, Nice!

Also the club Topper was being used with windsurf kit and kayaks ready to go if needed and club SUP's arriving soon.

Buoyancy aids and SUP's supplied by Hunstanton Watersports.

Hope to see you soon on one of these fun and chilled evenings. Summers here

BKSA Barrow Round Up May 27th-29th

Thursday, 2 June 2011 23:43:30 BST

BKSA Barrow Round Up May 27th-29th

Location: Earnse Bay, Walney Island, Barrow, Cumbria
Location Sponsor: Adventure Capital and Palmera Local
Co-Event Sponsor: North West Kitesurfing
Tour Sponsors: Ion, King of Watersports, Palmera Local
Disciplines: Kitesurf Freestyle

The BKSA came back to Barrow for the 5th year in the row.

The forecast was fantastic – perhaps a bit too windy – we arrived on the Thursday to 35 knots!

Friday dawned with a strong westerly under sunny skies, the water looking tropical. The pros got on the water at 10.30 am with 9 meter kites however most were changing down to 7 meter as the wind was stronger than predicted , there were small kickers and some big moves going down with some spectacular wipe-outs.

There was some great riding from the Pro Men – Dan Sweeney doing some great combos to get a 4th , Jon Blieker got a 3rd place with some big moves while UK 2010 Champ Ned Taylor scored his first win against local Luke Whiteside – in a close final.

In the girls it was all to play for in the losers final with Nicky Rudd competing against Pip Grundy and Sukie Robertson – Nicky won her heat only to wipe-out seconds before the end to face a trip to hospital with an over extended arm injury .
Holly Kennedy from Troon and Hannah Whiteley from Stockport went out in the winds to show how they had improved over the past 6 months training abroad – Hannah got the win.

Friday night and Gary from North West Kitesurfing battled the winds to cook a fantastic BBQ for 50 people who huddled in amongst the cabins

Saturday and riders briefing was held at 9 am due to the fast online registration system that is now being used – with a first possible start at 10.30 am

The winds were peaking between 25-30 knots with the juniors on 5 m whilst everyone else was on 7m – very windy – there was plenty of crashing and broken kites.

There were some great riding in all fleets -

Pete Whiteley showed great skill in retaining his lead in the seniors against competitors 10 years younger busting old favourites like deadmen!

Robbie Shire Maidment did well in the juniors to take a great win with some new moves ahead of Ellys Bloore and Jordan Hurst all were riding extremely well

In the Youth section there was some great technical riding – with 2010 Youth Champ Jack Daykin wining

Younger sister Chloe Durrant won over her sibling Danille in a final which also saw Kierra Allwood in the Amateur Ladies – making an all Norfolk final!

Amateur Men was won by new face Chris Forshaw

Saturday night saw a great evening in The George with chilli, curry and karaoke – standout had to be Jack Ridel

Sunday dawned with more strong winds – it was decided to do a rider judged expression session – this was kindly sponsored by - Moore of Fresh Linen Limited
Riders were sent out for an hour to bust their moves

1st was a joint effort with a piggy back – Polly and Jemima Crathorne, 2nd Dan Sweeney and 3rd Ali Barrett

The King of Watersports for biggest move of the weekend went to Chloe Durrant for a powered railey!

Prize giving was done at 3pm in front of a huge crowd

Special thanks go out to Gary for all the efforts in hosting another fantastic event.

The new Flexifoil Hadlow Wakestyle Kiteboard 2011

Friday, 27 May 2011 14:55:29 BST

Flexifoil Hadlow Wakestyle Kiteboard 2011 - Now in Stock

Size: 138x43

http://www.hunstantonwatersports.com/kitesurfing/kitesurfing-boards-kiteboards/flexifoil-kitesurfing-kiteboards/flexifoil-hadlow-wakestyle-kiteboard-2011.html

From time to time a great product is invented. A ‘game-changer’. Something different. Special. Extraordinary. These products break down barriers, they take things to new levels, they can even change lives. By reading on, you will discover something new, something that will excite you, something that you can now be a part of. Flexifoil, together with Aaron Hadlow, present the HADLOW Wakestyle kiteboard.

The HADLOW Wakestyle kitesurf board from Flexifoil is accessible enough for any rider using or wanting to use bindings. With its smooth cut through chop, comfortable ride and fast aggressive performance, it’s a great ride for those looking to push themselves in wakestyle riding, rails and cross over to cable parks. Designed by Aaron Hadlow himself, the HADLOW Wakestyle kiteboard from Flexifoil offers a new standard in performance. With a long list of features and intricate special designs, in its class, this really is the best performing board you can ask for!

Technical Information

World’s Most Advanced Base Channel System
Completely unique and perfected down to the last millimetre to maximise grip and optimise water flow, the HADLOW Wakestyle kiteboard’s base channel system completely locks in whilst edging but gives a loose feel whilst flattening off for superb handling. A deep, strong quad concave in the base of the board enhances grip, with specialised channels running along the heel and toe edge and on the tips of the board creating a fin-like effect that allows comfortable riding, even without fins. The HADLOW Wakestyle kiteboard gives you the option to hit rails without any possibility of catching fins whilst sliding.

High Defined Rocker
The HADLOW Wakestyle kiteboard carries a strong rocker line, a little more than the average kiteboard, for better landing and handling with boots. However, there is still less than conventional wakeboards, which are often too slow when using a kite. Combined with the base channels this keeps the board’s speed and creates a loose, superbly handling kiteboard that generates strong pop and locked in landings. The rocker has been developed to find perfect balance not only on the kite, but also crossing over naturally onto cable wakeboarding.

High Strength for Bindings
The HADLOW Wakestyle kiteboard is designed to be stiffer and thicker than the HADLOW Freestyle board, optimising it for bindings, with an in built stiffening structure adding even more strength across the deck. We have added a ‘grind base’ bottom surface so if you do decide to hit some rails it will not break or deteriorate as quickly as conventional kiteboards. This kiteboard has been built to cope with all the abuse Aaron can throw at it, we’ve challenged him to break it but it just keeps on going!

Versatile Cross-over Board
The HADLOW Wakestyle kiteboard has been suited to sit in between the HADLOW Freestyle kiteboard and other wakeboards, offering awesome crossover from kites, to the cable. You won’t find this level of performance on any other board in the world. This HADLOW Wakestyle kiteboard really is in a class of its own.

Purpose Built Fins
For those times when you do need or want the fins, we’ve designed unique fins for the HADLOW Wakestyle kiteboard, taking a small shape perfectly suited for wakestyle tricks

BKSA Redcar Kiteival Round up 2011

Thursday, 12 May 2011 22:41:54 BST

BKSA Redcar Kiteival Round up 2011

Redcar blows for kitesports festival

Hundreds of spectators packed the sand of Redcar beach last weekend to witness some of the UK’s best kite sports athletes take part in a three day festival.

The Redcar Kiteival showcased a wide range of powerkite sports, attracting top kitesurfers and freestyle kite buggy and kite landboard specialists from all over the country.

Local communities also got involved in the event, with children from local schools taking part in free powerkite taster lessons on Friday 6th May, and spectators turning out in their hundreds to watch kitepowered competitions on both land and sea.

Event organiser Richard Gowers from the British Kite Surfing Association said: “We always get a really warm welcome whenever we come to Redcar and it was great to see so many people on the beach over the weekend, it was buzzing.

“We had some extremely challenging wind conditions which made it difficult for the competitors to show the crowds their full repertoire of tricks and moves, but they all worked really hard to put on a great demonstration.”

Starting on Friday 6th May, the three day kite festival was organised by the British Kite Surfing Association (BKSA) with the support of EDF Energy Renewables and Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council.

After two days of relatively light winds, gusts of up to 40 knots were recorded on the final day of the festival, forcing organisers into running a reduced programme of competition.

Six rounds of the kitesurf course racing event ran over Saturday and Sunday, with Cornishman Denzil Williams snatching a win in the event by the narrowest of margins over 2010 British champion Callum Edge from Weymouth.

On Saturday four races were held in a light, but strengthening south-easterly wind, with Edge and Williams placing either first or second in all rounds. By Sunday conditions were unpredictable, alternating between strong gusts and lulls, making the correct equipment choice crucial.

While many of the racers opted for larger kites to capitalise on the lulls, the strong gusts actually favoured those set up using smaller kit. Many new riders sneaked into the top three - Jim Gaunt getting a third and Rou Chater a first - but it was in Sunday’s final two races that Denzil Williams outperformed his rivals to clinch the overall win.

Denzil Williams said: “It was extremely close in the end between me and Callum (Edge). The wind was really hard to read and the skill level in the competition is so high this year that just one mistake can cost you the race. Everyone is improving every year and its getting harder and harder to come out at the front of the pack.”

On the beach, competition in the kite landboard and kite buggy arena ran throughout the weekend, with the freestylers making the most of the difficult conditions busting out some great moves. All have been practicing hard over the winter and some great unhooked riding was seen.

Jack Elston from Southend, Essex, continued the form which saw him crowned 2010 champion, winning the freestyle kite landboard competition.

He said: “The wind was really gusty which made it really challenging to compete in. We had it a bit easier than the kitesurfers who had the risk of being blown out to sea, and there was a really good turnout from spectators watching the competition on the beach.

“ It definitely gives you an extra buzz to be riding in front of a big crowd and the beach at Redcar is massive, it’s a really good venue.”

In the freestyle kitesurfing competition only the junior division was completed due to the gusty conditions.

Robbie Shire-Maidment showed his skills to good effect winning both the kitesurf freestyle and the juniorkite landboard competitions.

Prize giving was done at 3.30pm with prizes being handed out by Debbie Allinson from Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council, with the event also supported by sponsors EDF Energy Renewables, TFM Radio, KA Kitesurfing, and tour sponsors Ion, King of Watersports and Palmera Local.

Naish Momentum 2011 Kiteboard Review

Sunday, 10 April 2011 16:53:40 BST

Naish Momentum 2011 Kiteboard Review

The 2011 Naish Momentum has all the hallmarks of a great Freestyle board. Insane pop, forgiving landings and a stiff mid-section that allows for super upwind ability. The increased width on the 138 gives the wakestyle rider the ability to stomp new tricks on a daily basis.

Technology  – The long lineage that sits behind the construction on Naish boards mean that you can guarantee that your getting a tough board that will stand up to the test of time. The new NASA/TECH-2 construction combined with High-Ten Response Flex allows for premier resistance to the poundings of Wakestyle and allows for the board to do its job every-time you throw a trick. The load and pop is great and the desire for kiters to achieve the same edge and pop each time is brought closer to reality with this board as the slightly wider profile and stiffer design allow for massive loading against the kite. I wouldn’t be surprised if this board would be a cable machine as well.

On the water – Like it says on the tin, the board is wicked, loads of drive upwind and insane pop. Landing a trick from height with no aid from the kite you really get the feeling that the wider profile helps landing no end. It will absorb big kiteloops as well and that’s key if you’re taking long sessions over the summer. Overall with this in mind it is one of this year’s top boards. My only slight gripe would be against the footstraps. Riding this board in boots you can’t go wrong, however if you want to take it out with the provided footstraps then prepare to go for some supermans!! I could not get them to hold even in flat conditions. Maybe it was just the shape of my feet but it seemed hard to get the same pop from the footstraps.

BOOM! One of the best boards out there this year and if you haven’t picked up a new board this year then this is the one for you. Freeride up to aggressive wakestyle you will love the Momentum 138cm Park. Get on it!!

Best Amarda 2011 Review

Best Amarda 2011 Kiteboard Review

THE HYPE

The Armada sets sail once again with a package of advanced build quality and construction technologies usually only reserved for much more expensive boards. Our Supremo wood core uses a laminated Paulownia construction with a UNI-Directional reinforcement tape spine to deliver the perfect blend of low weight and high strength between your feet. A PVC
foam core-surround with integrated flex-tips gives you low swing weight and provides bullet proof durability for all conditions riding. A smooth waisted outline with a shallow concave keeps the board responsive underfoot, helping to maximize low-end ability without adding volume. Thinning the core towards the tips of the board allows smooth progressive carving through the turns and gives you ample flex for checking in even the roughest landing or smoothing out the heaviest chop. The Armada board delivers top flight performance and construction for less money than you would expect. Its blend of light weight, high strength, easy handling and great looks make it the ideal freeride board for riders of all levels.

TEST TEAM NOTES
The 2011 Armada is a stunning looking board. The white is very white and the other colours are incredibly vibrant. like a Mac computer showroom, it’s all very clean, shiny and alluring. New pads and straps this year are excellent -
comfortable, cushioned and grippy, it’s easy to get your foot nicely locked in there. Best are putting this board as there freeride board, yet we’ve seen their new test team frestyle rider Rui Mera ripping it up on this in Cape Town for
weeks, and it’s easy to see why, it’s a very nice board to ride.. The armada is what a free ride board should be about, not discriminating against anyone’s ability but rewarding riders with the skill to push it.

In fact I spent about an hour gathering various image angles of the umpteen carves he kept n doing in the shallows, seemingly pushing harder and harder each time to see if he could find the limits of when the board would start to give. It wouldn’t. it’s also very light weight, so for boosting and tweaking it’s not going to rip your stomach muscles to bits
and the fairly narrow outline makes it comfortable for tearing around the ocean. Although the Armada carves well, it maintains enough stiffness to pop up for even the most radical handle-passes.

SUMMARY
We are big fans of this size of twin-tip as a one size for all conditions for the average rider and the Armada mixes plenty of get up and go with an ability to hold down power when the conditions turn up. In the hype Best insinuates that this is their budget board. It doesn’t feel like it.

Kite World LIKED: Fantastic all round performance. This is how you expect a good, modern freeride twintip to ride.
KW WOULD CHANGE: It feels strong, rides nicely and has good fixtures and fittings, what’s not to like?
Sizes 134 x 40 and 137 x 41

Mystic Shadow Harness 2011 Review

Sunday, 13 February 2011 10:23:17 GMT

Mystic Shadow Harness: 2011
Price: 139.00
Size Tested - M

First Impressions:

Out of the box, this harness has all the hallmarks of a Mystic design.
The Shadow is the little brother to the popular Warrior series and this year’s
Warrior 3. However don’t let this put you off, this harness is as good and as
versatile. First impressions are of a solid build quality and as you would
expect with Mystic, the normal technology applies. This year sees the
harness being sported by Aaron Hadlow so there must be something going
for it.

Goods:

As already mentioned, out of all the harnesses on the rail this one
stands out immediately as one that has a bomb-proof build quality. The Battle
belt is as usual very solid and would without doubt be capable of taking on the
harshest workout (several seasons). The smaller back profile than the Warrior
3 feels good and will suit the slighter rider who does not want a high
supporting back design. For the budding freestyler who wants as little clutter
on his person then this could be a great asset. In the same vain one thing that
you will notice about the harness is it’s no frills design and this simplicity
again is a huge positive. Combining the technology that has become
synonymous with the Mystic brand whilst keeping the design to a simple and
ergonomic style will definitely mean that this harness gains a following. When
hooked up to a kite, the Spreader Down System and the snug fitting Spreader
Protector work in tandem to keep the ribs at bay from the bar riding up.

Bads:

There are always some, and despite this being my favourite of the
harnesses that I tested there are some downsides. As mentioned about the
Warrior 3, the Clickerbar 2.0 design (the locking system for the spreader bar)
whilst being exceptionally secure could be an issue in cold weather when
coming in off the water with cold hands. Coupled with this, the handle pass
system whilst being simple does not have a quick release. Just be sure to
have a good release on your leash. Finally, and this is really a matter of
preference, the spreader bar hook is very shallow and whilst accommodating
those who ride with the donkey dick plugged in constantly, does not really
give much room for a slack chicken loop when re-launching but conversely is
great for unhooking so its more something to be aware of.

Overall:

Overall this harness in my opinion is a worthy adversary to its big
brother and the simplicity of design and slimmer feel definitely gets my vote.
The same hardcore Mystic construction and low wear materials coupled with

the light feel make it a dream to wear. Oh and did I mention style! The
monotone colours used are great. In fact I think I might just get one myself!

Flexifoil Hadlow Pro 2011 Kite Review

Tuesday, 25 January 2011 12:27:00 GMT

Flexifoil Hadlow Pro 2011 Kite Review

DISCLAIMER: I am sponsored by Hunstanton Watersports and have been given a great deal on the Hadlows. However, I hope that I can still offer some good insights and I will also start with what I don't love about it rather than what I do:

Dont: The bridle instructions.

I've been kiting for 10 years and it took me and three other kiters to realise that some of the bridle extensions on the diagram are already attached to the lines. This was really confusing. Out of the bag it comes perfectly rigged-and-ready for 5-line kiting but changing it is definitely an IQ test. If you opt for the Hadlows I would take the time to understand all the different settings.

Do: The different settings, once you work them out, are awesome. Essentially there are two main options:

1.) De-power mode with small pulleys
2.) Full-power mode with bridles to keep the kite stable.

With each option you have the ability to add the 5th line for extra safety and control. So this means there are effectively 4 different ways you can have your kite set up. The de-power mode is ideal for wave riding, learning new tricks and dealing with a kite-size too big. Full power mode is awesome for full-on wake-style and big, fast kiteloops.

Do: Pop and Drop!
For the last 3 years I've been riding the fuels which I absolutely love. The 2009 and 2011 models pull like a train which is great for fully-powered riding. One thing I did find is that all my mates on the Hadlows were learning loads more techy handlepasses than I was and always seemed to be sticking them. I took a leap of faith switching to the Hadlows and now realise it's all down to the way the kite flutters in the sky a little bit when you pop hard. With a sharp push on the rail into a slim, back mobe or KGB I found I was catching the bar really easily and even getting my other hand on it 90% of the time. When it came to flat-3s I was bearing down wind and seeing the kite (which pulls you into the trick with a truckload of power) gently fluttering and making the pass way easier. For the first time I was able to get all the way round, put my other hand on the bar and touch the bar on the backide 5 (double handlepass off a kicker). That's something I've never even come close to on the fuels. The Hadlows have all the power of fuels but seem to be able to dissipate that power at the perfect moment if you pop hard. Incredible.

Do: Build quality. Everything from the stitching to the bar and lines is top-notch. A lot of thought has gone into build techniques and when you pump the kite up rock hard and hold it on the beach it just "feels" so solid.

So who is this kite for?: My honest opinion is that if you're into freestyle or free-ride that hybrid and bow-kites hold back intermediates. This kite is not for complete beginners but if you're up and riding and making some jumps and spins, this is a great kite to take your riding forward. If you want to unhook, boost big and try some kiteloops with a kite is powerful but amazing at catching you.

Cheers,

The New 2011 Mystic Warrior III Waist Harness

Monday, 24 January 2011 22:10:36 GMT

The New 2011 Mystic Warrior III Waist Harness

Price: £154.94

Mystic have always been a killer brand. Whether it be their technically brilliant harnesses or their toasty suits, by keeping their diversification into all things kitesurfing down to a minimum they have managed to stay on top of the things they do make. One of these is harnesses and without a doubt the new 2011 Mystic Warrior III is no exception. With some recognisable changes from the original that we have all been used to seeing for the last couple of years this new model boasts more back support, lighter foam padding and a newly designed battle belt. Coupled with the slick yet classy designs that have become synonymous with Mystic over the years, this is one of those harnesses that will fly.

Fit wise the Warrior III feels very similar to last years Pro limit Hadlow model and the high back design that comes up to the ribs feels incredibly snug on first impressions. Arch your back and you will feel the newly featured Kinetic technology (bullshit) foam conform round your body. Coupling this with the same old Mystic adage of a Spreader Down System and new Clicker Down spreader bar system, the likelihood of malfunction are minimal.

What really made the difference for me between just another new mystic Warrior and this harness is that they have looked at things that were inherently poor on their old stuff. The Clicker Down System is far better than their old method and will not come undone at crucial moments. Nonetheless this new bit of tech still needs refining as trying to get the spreader bar to unlock with cold hands could become frustrating! The battle belt rearrangement is nothing new to the industry but this harness benefits no end from its relocation and the softer back padding with the new foam and higher cut make for a far greater sense of support when strapped in and hooked up to a kite.

Life expectancy remains to be seen but I would hazard  a guess that  the warrior like its name sake and ancestors will be able to take the poundings of real life kiting. My only concern would be the neoprene trim that makes everything lovely and soft, but when rubbing on a back zip suit may start to wear down.

Overall this harness is another top class product from the harness specialists and the newly designed features are well placed to deal with whatever kiting can throw at them. Without a doubt though the greatest triumph is the comfort and the new Kinetic Technology foam makes life a dream every time you strap in. Longer sessions are surely on the cards!!

Naish Park 2011 Kite Review

Naish Park 2011 kite Review

Words: Steve-o

The Naish Park is by far the best kite I’ve flown and put a big smile on my face, for a perfect mix of old school with new this kite is the perfect all-rounder.

The Park as I see it is the perfect all-rounder, from sliders and kickers and low level tricks to your high mega loops with it's smooth, fast and stableness for wave riding.

Naish Bolt 2011 Review

Naish Bolt 2011 Review

Words:
Stubbie - Hunstanton Watersports team rider.

--------------------

Ok...ok 'if simply the best kite I have flown' is not good enough I will try and expand a little.

I have a 5, 7, 9 and 12 in these and have flown all apart from the 5.

Out of the bag and pumped up the kite has a much more angular leading edge profile than the helix and it's been said before that its more cult like to look at. The bar is almost identical to last years but it does have a much better grip and the safety leash/ chicken loop are now in i-pod white, it comes complete with a de-power stop pre fitted which can be easily slid up and down to suit, all in all it's very nice to look at and simple.

In the sky the the bolt feels amazingly stable even in the gustiest of conditions, (how about zero to 35 mph and then back again, we can get it bad in Norfolk) being very well balanced, it's seemingly able to fly itself and as a result it's very difficult to drop out of the sky. The bar is oh so simple and the bar pressure, is in my opinion perfection, it's certainly not heavy and more importantly not too light, it has a very nice pull throughout with the off (I don't want to play any more) position being at the very top, just as it should be.

The kite can be made to peform C type kite turns with a nice constant pull or it will turn on it's own axis, pretty amazing stuff when you see this happening, this ability coupled with the kites superb upwind ability, I believe is down to the best yet synergy of sigma bridle and the all new improved 'klingon bird of prey shape'. Unhooked the kite is an absolute dream and the kite can be steered one handed with a twist of the wrist, when riding unhooked down the line on a wave, the kite will drift back nicely, allowing you to concentrate on riding rather than worrying about what the kite is doing. If it does go wrong, just keep hold of the bar and watch the kite climb back into the air, all very nice and reassuring. When riding into the wind on a wave or in those crappy onshore conditions the upwind ability of the kite coupled with it's insatiable 'i want to fly' personality means even these waves can be good fun.

I'm not much of freestyler and so will not comment on its ability to perform unhooked kite loops and so forth, that said I am told by those in the know that it's a good freestyle kite as well.

Does this kite have a personality? You bet it does and it's a 'I wanna get out there, have as much fun as is possible, rip the arse out of it and at the same time if your a little bit unsure of my potential i'll go easy on you until you catch up with me'

Well done Naish

BKSA Blackpool 2010

Thursday, 28 October 2010 23:45:05 BST

Blackpool Kiteival

Dates - Oct 14th-17th

Sponsors – Centrica, Visit Blackpool

Tour Sponsors- Flexifoil, Ion, King of Watersports, Red Bull, Deadman

Back to Blackpool for the 2nd year in a row – this time on the Northern Beaches at Bispham.

It was the final event of the season and it was everything to play for in many of the fleets especially the Kitesurfing Freestyle.

The event started a day early due to the end of year prize giving on the Saturday night.

Thursday

The Pro Riders arrived and registered – the wind forecast was for no wind – so the heats were drawn and riders spent the day tuning the kit for the forecasted winds of Friday

Friday

All the other fleets arrived to register and the race crew got ready for the days proceedings

There was a mixture of rain showers early on however these went away to leave the strengthen North West wind.

Kitesurfing Freestyle

The competition got started at 10 am and most riders were on 9 or 12 meter kites – the sea got progressively rougher during the day with a few nice lagoons forming however the race crew only had till 4pm due to the high tide to complete all fleets – a mean feat!

Heat times and Transition times were reduced and every fleet got a result –

Particularly tight heats were the Pro Men’s where Sam Light (2009 champ) decided to enter and take the win giving Ned Taylor and Luke Whiteside a fight for 2nd and 3rd. Ned went bigger and put in more tricks ahead of Luke’s higher risk higher scoring moves – however Luke just crashed once too many times .

The Am Ladies, Am Men, Youths and Seniors Fleets were all up for grabs and it was great to watch them all in the difficult conditions

Kitelandboard and Kitebuggy Freestyle

This was one of the best beaches for the discipline however due to unseasonable  Easterlies the three weeks prior to event the sand was to soft to perform so the riders went up to another beach to get all the heats done

Dave Roberts managed to beat Craig Sparkes run of 1sts in the final event in the buggies with some great tricks

In the other two categories of Men and Junior Kitelandboard it was no surprise with the current leaders Jack Elston and Greg Chilton putting  in sound performances to take the podium places once again ahead of the rest of the field

Kitesurfing Course Race

With a great wind the 11 racers managed to get in 7 races on the Friday using 9 -12 m kites

Current leader Callum Edge was absent and it was Steph Bridge and Denzil Williams battling it out in the top of the fleet, Denzil ripping his fin out whilst getting a bit of involuntary “air time” – next battle was Lee Harvey and new boy Ben Todd who surprised everyone with a couple of 2nds and flying off the wind – one to watch next year.

Friday night saw the Red Bull BBQ and luckily the wind died off for this!

Saturday

Dawned with a light building North Westerly

There was enough wind to run some Ladies Kitebuggy and Nicola Hammond put up a great show to win the heat against Sukie Robertson

There was then an Expression session for the Landboard and Buggy guys to show the crowds what it was all about with some great tricks in the light wind - Dan Smith 1st Jack Elston 2nd and Ash Garwood 3rd

The Racers managed to get 3 more races in - Steph did enough to take the win – again showing the boys how to race!

The wind then switched offshore just after lunch however enough to run Powerkite sessions all day courtesy of Flexifoil

It was all off to the Venue at Cleveleys for the prizegiving and a big night out in Blackpool

Many thanks to all of our sponsors and the race crew who made the event happen.

Wakeboard Blast!

Saturday, 2 October 2010 15:05:13 BST

Hi Guys!

Just a quick one to fill you in on Thursday's Wakeboard Blast...

Firstly, the thank you’s.  Thanks to everyone who came along to the Wakeboard Blast yesterday, you all made it a fantastic day.  A big thank you to Big Leigh for putting the time and effort into organising everything to make it a brilliant day that ran very smoothly.  Thank you to Little Lee for the vast improvement on his driving skills! Thank you to Billy for spending the whole day filming on the back of the boat and finally a huge thank you to Nicky Roger for the bloomin’ marvellous chilli that kept us all going!

The day started at eleven a.m. with everyone doing their ‘first runs’ (I found out yesterday was approximately a two mile round trip!) which consisted of continuous cheering on at the side lines, many catastrophic wipe-outs and lots of slipping around on the jetty… Thanks ducks!  Bearing in mind that most of the people who had taken part were either complete beginners or had maybe had one or two lessons, I think everyone competed fantastically!

Once everyone had completed their ‘first runs’ we all went inside to recover with Chilli a la Nicky, whilst laughing and joking at each other’s runs and talking about the prizes that were up for offer (I’ll get to that part soon).  Then it was time for us to start our ‘second runs’.  This was pretty much similar to before, lots of cheering on, some brilliant face plants (thanks Nikki Durrant) and growing wise to the slippery jetty!

Now the real fun began… Introducing ‘Run what you Brung’ the 100 foot drag…

There are two rules to this, one, it must float and two, it can’t damage the water (I don’t understand rule two either).  Imagine trying to stand up behind a moving boat with a washing up bowl on your feet. I don’t think I need to say more but I will anyway!  Thanks again to Nikki Durrant for the funniest run ever run, which consisted basically of three attempts of trying to stay in a big floppy plastic washing basket.  As you can guess, it didn’t really go to plan…

Also competing was a sledge, complete with board wax, a tea tray, again complete with board wax, two helmets, one for each foot, a bin lid and Dangerous Lee.  I don’t think any of us had laughed that much in a long time, pure brilliance!

Finally once we were all showered and changed it was the prize giving.  The prizes were given for:

·         Best Wipe-out

·         Best Board Skills

·         Best Air

·         Run what you Brung

And the winners were:

·         Best Wipe-out – Nikki Durrant - for the face slap! Her prize, Dirty Dog Sunglasses!

·         Best Board Skills – John Matthews - who hadn’t wake boarded in years! His Prize, Any Rash Vest of his choice!

·         Best Air – Barney Coles – who hadn’t ever wake boarded.  Ever! His Prize, Mystic Wind stopper!

·         Run what you Brung – Nicky Rogers – Who rode her husband Lee Roger for 100 feet, hilarious! Her prize, a brand new Torch!! (Complete with new batteries)

All in all it was a fantastic day that was thoroughly enjoyed by all and I think I can say for everyone that we can’t wait for the next event!! Thanks all!!

***Update*** The single elimination did not run yesterday, so Thursday’s result is final! The Men’s Open finally got underway yesterday. The wind built to around 7m conditions, and the swell, though largely lacklustre and weak, did improve a bit as the day went on. In the opening rounds, a dark horse started to show promise as Dom Yule won his opener against Ryan Coote.

Paul Stebbings from Norfolk also won his heat against the talented Richard Sills. Powered up strapped riding was the order of the day, using the full potential depower of the kite in the racking gusts. Stebbo eventually crashed out in the third round against Lee Pasty, though to a few people on the beach, it really looked like Stebbo had taken it. Still, he took the news on the chin and went down in a heroic display of blitzkreig hits in the building surf. Dom Yule beat Ryan Coote a second time to put him into the semi to face Richard Sills. Meanwhile, Lee Pasty advanced to meet fellow Cornishman Will Bennet in the other semi, along with Norfolk ripper Rob Sayer. Yule fought hard but Sillsy took the win with an assured display of 12 o’clock smacks on the backhand stance. Four time champ Will Bennet won his semi-final with Rob Sayer moving on to face Yule in the losers final. Lee Pasty’s ride was over. Sayer kept the momentum up, linking deep powerful turns and frenzied hits to take a deserved 3rd place, putting Dom Yule in 4th in his first ever Wavemasters.

The final was as ever a tense affair; what swell there was had peaked to around head high and wave selection was critical. Sillsy’s true surf style was drawing ooh’s and aah’s from the beach, but was Will Bennet’s fluid, less incenderary approach going to be enough for a 5th title? A leashless Sillsy lost his board at one point, leaving an opening for Bennet to pick off one of the bigger waves of the day and he certainly didn’t waste it. Sillsy was back on his feet quickly though and responded with three big, convincing backhand wallops on the way to the beach. The buzzer sounded, the guys came in and the five judges reached a unanimous decision. Before I reveal who took the title, I’ve just heard we’re running another single elimination today which could be concluded inside of four hours… one of these blokes could be the new champ Ryan Coote crashed out in the 3rd round Norfolk boy Rob Sayer was blazing Backhand assault of Sillsy The original Wavemaster
